Flying with Food Allergies

Flying with Food Allergies

Traveling with food allergies is not for the faint of heart. We’ve all heard some of the horrific stories about the lack of education and compassion many in the airline industry demonstrate when it comes to food allergy. With no set standards across the industry and behavior dependent on individual personnel, flying can trigger anxiety and fear in even the most experienced allergy families.

Luckily, our friends at Million Mile Secrets recently published an amazing guide to flying safely with food allergies to help ease our fears. “Due to the lack of clarity among airlines and their policies concerning travelers with common food allergies, we created a guide that gives unique flying tips for both domestic and international travel,” says David Lafferty of Million Mile Secrets. “We highlight the importance of preparation before you even arrive at the airport,” says Lafferty, noting that the guide “also includes a chart of the major airlines and their policies for how they accommodate the safety of passengers with common food allergies.”

Food allergy families are no strangers to the idea of fully preparing for events before they happen, and this tool will certainly help to ease the process while we work for more streamlined standards within the industry. At Thrive Inside Nutrition, we’ve also added this new guide to our list of resources for those who are newly-diagnosed with a life threatening food allergy.
